Estuaries - features along the coast where the mainland, barrier islands, or vegetation semi-enclose a water body. The water in estuaries is brackish, that is a mixture of salt and freshwater. Estuaries produce many kinds and vast amounts of sport and commercial fishes and provide numerous other ecological services of direct and indirect value to humans.
